Novell Inc is now shipping Version 2 of its Telephony Services software system for linking telephone and computer networks. The Provo, Utah company has added support for the Apple Computer Inc Macintosh operating system, IBM Corp’s OS/2, Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT and its own UnixWare. Other improvements include enhanced integration with NetWare Directory Services facilities in NetWare 4 that offers easier network management and administration, as well as improved documentation and interface support for Spanish, French, Czech and Hungarian languages. TCP/IP communications and utilities designed to enable customers to monitor and adjust their phone system for maximum efficiency have also been added. In addition, Comdial Enterprise Systems Corp, Fujitsu Business Communications Ltd and Mitel Corp have joined AT&T Corp in offering Telephony Services interfaces for NetWare Telephony. Siemens Rolm Communications Inc also says it will do so in the near future. According to Novell, more than 100 software vendors are currently working on applications for Telephony Services, including multimedia messaging, conference calling, facsimile and electronic mail capabilities, call control and telephone-database integration. The company claims that the product is now supported by all major PABX vendors worldwide.
