Novell Inc president and chief operating officer Joe Marengi said the company’s agreement to integrate ManageWise with Computer Associates International Inc’s Unicenter TNG systems management environment (CI No 3,155), is just the beginning of what he expects will turn into a wide ranging partnership with Charles Wang’s Long Island-based company. Bigger than its recently- announced relationship with Oracle Corp, is how Marengi characterized it. The two are working to provide management of ManageWise NetWare LANs from Unicenter. CA is going to resell ManageWise and bundle a version of it with custom versions of Unicenter designed for use with Novell’s IntranetWare network software. The bundle will include a version of its Cheyenne Software unit’s ARCserve backup and recovery software. Marengi wouldn’t comment of the proceedings against the Wolf Mountain Group and its advanced clustering research and development team. Marengi said the company has 30 to 35 engineers working on the technology and will release what Clustering Interconnect Protocol (CICP), Unified File Object Directory store (UFOD) and kernel enhancements – collectively the Wolf Mountain technologies – in the next version of IntranetWare.
