The company has Roger Levy to head up its open platform operations worldwide. Levy, who cut his teeth at Lucent and held several senior positions at several start-ups, takes over as general manager of the division from David Patrick, who has left the company.
The company has also promoted Bill Hewitt as senior vice president of its Asia-Pacific operations. He will be responsible for Novell’s interests in China, India, Southern Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Hewitt replaces Rhonda O’Donnell who moves to a newly created non-executive position in Novell’s Asia-Pacific business.
Hewitt’s prior role as chief marketing officer has been filled by John Dragoon, who previously managed Novell’s global field marketing
The appointments came in the same week that Novell launched its next generation of enterprise Linux desktop (Enterprise Desktop 10) products at the Cebit trade show. It claims its Linux-based SuSE operating system is now mature enough to replace Windows systems on office worker desktops. The products are expected to ship in late September.
