In a move that will come as something of a shock to users conditioned to expect steady price erosion in the personal computer end of the market, Novell Inc, Provo, Utah has added $300 to the prices of SFT, Advanced and ELS NetWare Level II. SFT NetWare thus rises 6.4% to $5,000; Advanced NetWare is up 10% at $3,300 and Entry Level NetWare Level II is up 18.75% at $1,900. There is additional functionality for the products, which now include NetWare for Macintosh v1.1 and the NetWare Requester for OS/2 v1.1 with named pipes, making NetWare the first operating system to support MS-DOS, Macintosh and OS/2 machines on the same network. Separately, the company enhanced its NetWare 3270 line, with the memory requirement cut by between 28% and 40%; gateway performance is claimed to be up to 400% better in some configurations; there is also support for multiple screen sizes and enhanced printer and mouse support. Upgrades to the SNA Gateway include improved performance, enhanced network management and a new Novell Synchronous/V.35 Adaptor board that provides remote SDLC communications at up to 64Kbps. Prices remain at $3,000 for the NetWare SNA Gateway; $600 for the NetWare SNA Gateway ELS; $1,000 for the NetWare 3270 LAN Workstation; $475 for the NetWare 3270 Multi Workstation. The Novell Synchronous/V.35 adaptor is $600 and the NetWare Token Ring Server Option is $4,000; all now.
