NOVELL PRODUCT BEEFS UP INTRANET BORDER PATROL

By CBR Staff Writer

Novell Inc intends this year to deliver a new border services product which will enable businesses to extend their corporate intranets into the internet while maintaining their current security and manageability. The product includes improved firewall security, as well as more secure user access management with the Novell Directory Service, which allows management of Internet access down to the individual user level from a single point of administration. It also features accelerated proxy serving that offsets performance disparities between the internet and the corporate networks by caching information closer to users, and Virtual Private Networking technology, which enables businesses to securely connect with remote sites and customers through site-to-site encryption, rather than using dedicated lines. No price or launch date has been set for the product, although a Novell spokesperson said it would likely be in the autumn or early winter.
