Novell Inc is so keen to persuade users of the benefits of its fault-tolerant network file servers that it is running special offer on the System Fault Tolerant NetWare operating systems for local area networks in the US. In order to make fault-tolerance available for all types of local area network installations, Novell is cutting the price of SFT NetWare v2.0a from now until October 31. A recent report indicates that nearly 75% of all local area network users list fault-tolerant reliability as the most desirable feature in a local area network operating system, says Novell president and chief executive Raymond Noorda. The indication is that the need exists for both large and small institutions. Price reductions on SFT NetWare v2.0a products range from $500 to nearly $5,000 depending on the operating system and accompanying options purchased. SFT NetWare Level II, coupled with the Transaction Tracking System option, normally sells for $4,990. The same product, coupled with The Coordinator software and The NetWare Message Handling Service, a total value of $8,480, is now $3,495. The Coordinator is a workgroup telecommunications tool from Action Technologies Inc which tracks communications, calendars, events for workgroups on local and wide area networks. Novell’s MHS provides a store-and-forward message routing capability for NetWare local area networks. Discount prices on SFT NetWare Level II with TTS, SFT NetWare Level II and SFT NetWare Level I are $2,995, $2,795 and $2,495, representing savings of $1,995, $1,200 and $500 respectively.
