Novell Inc has released a new version of LANalyzer for Windows, which it claims shows a major performance increase with Windows95. Version 2.2 provides the performance increase with Windows95 by taking advantage of the 32-bit client environment that, says Novell, gives a 100% capture rate of traffic on 10Mbps Ethernet and 16Mbps Token Ring segments. It also has Windows95-enabled multi- tasking capabilities, eliminating the need for TSR Terminate and Stay Resident applications, freeing memory for other applications. It also offers full support for NetWare Directory Services, decoding all NDS frames. It is NetWare Directory Services-enhanced to enable users to gather station names from anywhere within a NetWare Directory Services tree and map station addresses to user names on an enterprise-wide basis. Other features of LANalyzer for Windows include a dashboard interface, intelligent problem-solving capabilities and built-in interactive training in diagnostic techniques. The product monitors the network for abnormal events, decodes NetWare, SNA, TCP/IP and AppleTalk traffic; further decodes are available from third parties. It supports Ethernet and Token Ring at all wire speeds. LANalyzer for Windows 2.2 is available immediately for around $1,535. Upgrades from current previous versions are available. The company plans to release Japanese and German versions of the kit later this year.
