Novell Inc yesterday duly launched its NetWare Management System, saying that it provides the foundation for a series of cohesive, modular network management products that combine to give systems administrators centralised control of resources throughout the network from a single personal computer. It is described as an open, extensible, object-oriented environment that looks after the NetWare environment and a variety of additional networked devices such as hubs, routers and wide-area network links. Developers can create their own applications using Novell’s network management application programming interfaces; it supports both OS/2 and Windows 3 applications and NetWare Management Agents. The software development kits are the primary building blocks that enable third-party developers to integrate their technologies into the NetWare Management System and developers can license them for $5,000 from April.
