NOVELL “IS A TURNAROUND” SAYS SCHMIDT

By CBR Staff Writer

Novell Inc CEO Eric Schmidt’s spending his summer clearing up the company’s internal issues – which readers will know are many and varied – but is now confident enough of a reversal of fortune at Orem, Utah to declare that Novell is a turnaround. Schmidt’s next task is to make Novell a player once again and put its technology center stage. He expects to lever Unix, NT, Java and object technologies to achieving this end and will forge new partnerships with companies in these spaces, including his former employer Sun Microsystems Inc. It’s been a long time since Sun or anyone else talked seriously about leveraging NetWare, NDS or other Novell technology in terms of aggressive new business opportunities rather than picking at a carcass.
