Novell Inc this week came out with version 3.0 of its 3270 LAN Workstation for DOS 3270 terminal emulation software for MS-DOS micros. The product works in conjunction with Novell’s NetWare for SAA NetWare-to-IBM host communications product. The new release adds automatic hot standby host session support so that if a primary connection is lost, the micro will be dynamically reconnected to alternate servers or hosts, and the company claims that users will experience little or no downtime if a connection to the host is interrupted. The tight integration with NetWare is also claimed to extend NetWare’s security and performance to the host connection and it encrypts network passwords between the micro and NetWare for SAA. NetWare 3270 LAN Workstation for DOS v3.0 is $1,500, now; only one copy is required per file server, however many micros are attached.
