Novell Inc and IBM Corp have announced the release of NetWare for SAA version 2.2, the upgrade of their jointly-developed local network-to-SNA gateway software. The companies, as with version 2.0 released in March last year, are again claiming tighter integration with Novell’s Network Directory Services (CI No 2,624). Enhancements include 32-bit client support for OS/2, Windows95 and NT. In addition, 2.2 is said to harness the Internet Protocol support available in Novell IntranetWare; specifically it supports TN3270E, has a File Transfer Protocol server and FTP-AFTP gateway – enabling users to retrieve host files from anywhere on the Internet or intranet – Frame Relay and FDDI. Shipping in mid-December, NetWare for SAA 2.2 is available in 10,50,250 and 500-user packages, priced between $2,500 and $35,500.
