Novell Inc’s extended its BorderManager NDS-based security and management environment with an authentication service based upon the Radius Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service. Radius is an Internet Engineering Task Force specification for remote authentication, providing a distributed security system that separates user authentication and authorization from the communications process, and a single, central location for user authentication. It will also enable Novell networks to interoperate with third party Radius-compatible devices operated by ISPs, hub, router and switch equipment vendors. Radius Services for NDS is available free of charge from Novell’s web site. It’s now offering that networked proxy cache (CI No 3,238) as BorderManager FastCache, offering the same functionality as that provided in its IPX/SPX gateway product.
