Novartis will provide ophthalmologists with patient consent and education software.
Novartis Ophthalmics has launched a new software program, created by Dialog Medical, for serving the ophthalmologist community. The program, called iMedConsent Ophthalmology, is designed to assist ophthalmologists in preparing consent forms for patients undergoing eye procedures as well as to generate patient educational materials from a library of educational document templates.
According to Novartis Opthalmics’ Vice President of Marketing, Dave Holland, The majority of patients visiting the doctor don’t receive ‘take home’ information about their condition Patients prefer to receive reliable data from their doctor, not from an unknown source on the Internet. We’re pleased to help ophthalmologists provide an important service to their patients and to make their jobs easier. This is one more way we’re showing our customers that we’re committed to them for the long run.
This is a wise move by Novartis, which is stepping in to provide for an unmet need among eye doctors. But the firm is not only providing a value-added service to physicians by offering patient education materials, it is offering a unique service among pharmaceutical players – customized consent forms.
By providing something that physicians have reason to use with each patient, this service is likely to get physicians online prior to seeing patients more frequently, increasing the likelihood that its branded materials will be passed along to patients. In this way, Novartis is increasing its chances of getting its name before both physicians and patients regularly, with a value-added service for both.
