Reuters also reports that NEC’s group capital spending will exceed a May forecast of $1,950m and reach the $2,067m mark, up from last year’s figure of $2,106m. Capital investment for electronic devices has been increased to $1,014m, while communications and computers remain unchanged from the May forecast of $288.6m and $429m respectively. The company has earmarked $1,131m for capital spending in 1991, which is down from the May forecast of $1,170m, and less than last year’s figure of $1,380m. Research and development spend is unchanged from May, and at $2,340m, is up from 1989’s $2,180m. Net profit forecast is still at $647m, compared with $585m a year ago, and sales are estimated at $23,400m against $21,060m last year.
