Back home in Dallas, Electronic Data Systems has announced that Norwest Corp is to join the venture between itself and the Bank One Columbus, Ohio affiliate of Banc One Corp in developing a major retail bank processing system for large financial institutions. EDS will design and build the system, and Norwest and Bank One will provide user evaluation and review the functional design. A key feature of the system will be integration of databases: larger financial institutions are finding that to enhance efficiency and customer service, they often need to consolidate previously separate databases into systems that are so large and complex as to tax current systems technology.
