Norwegian Telecom has chosen L M Ericsson Telefon AB’s DECT-based wireless system for technical and marketing trials of Personal Communications Service: the trial will use Ericsson’s Freeset wireless phone system linked to the local public phone switch with 160 radio base stations being installed and be fully operational by April: all radio transmissions are encrypted to provide high security against eavesdropping; last December the Helsinki Telephone Co chose an Ericsson system for the first commercial DECT-based Personal Communications Service in the world, with operations set to begin in April; a similar trial in Boise, Idaho by US West Inc, should begin in April.
