The government of Norway has refused Apple clearance to take aerial photographs of its capital city to create 3D images for its Maps app, according to a native newspaper.
Anyone wishing to fly over Oslo to take pictures requires a licence from the authorities, which has been denied on the grounds of security concerns, according to newspaper Aftenposten.
While satellite imagery is allowed – as used in other maps – security measures have tightened since Anders Brevik planted a bomb outside a government building before going on a killing spree at a youth camp in 2011.
Nokia has some 3D images of Oslo, but not for the entire city, while Norwegian companies have been granted permission to take aerial photos, though gaps exist in the content available on their sites, according to the BBC.
CBR has asked Apple for comment.
