When SunSoft Inc acquired Interactive Systems Corp a year or two back, it wasn’t interested in Norton Utilities for Unix, but a little start-up calling itself AlmondSeed Software Inc, founded by David Mandelkorn, has picked up rights to the stuff from Symantec Corp which reckons the market is too small for it to play in. AlmondSeed has renamed the code Almond Utilities and is currently delivering it for Santa Cruz Operation Inc Unix, intending to convert to SunOS in the second quarter and maybe Hewlett-Packard Co HP-UX if the volumes continue to look good. Almond Utilities is available from the company, in Mountain View, California, and from Santa Cruz value-added resellers. Mandelkorn will also try to get the software picked up by distributors.
