Northern Telecom Ltd has implemented Integrated Services Digital Network capabilities on one of its operating DMS SuperNode public telephone exchanges. The DMS SuperNode in question is owned by the Crystal Bay Telephone Co, near Ottawa, Canada, which serves the Carling location of Northern Telecom’s research and develop ment affiliate, Bell Northern Research. The addition of the ISDN technology enables the DMS SuperNode to provide a customer with full 2B+D service that supports up to eight terminal devices on one twisted pair telephone line. For the noncognoscenti, 2B+D refers to the two 64Kbps messaging channels and one 16Kbps sig nalling channel that enable the implementation of ISDN services. DMS SuperNode is Northern Telecom’s networking product that integrates previously separate network functions. ISDN has been available on the DMS-100 since 1986.
