Northern Telecom Ltd duly launched its wireless PABX – the Companion – in Hong Kong on Friday, claiming it to be the first such system to implement the CT2 Common Air Interface standard; it chose Hong Kong because of the regulatory climate and demand for new communications technologies and says it already has over $1m of orders there. The Companion 100 supports up to 80 cordless phone extensions on any existing PABX, not just Northern Telecom ones, and the Companion 10 is a stand-alone unit for up to 32 phones.
