Northern Telecom Ltd has indirectly secured a major contract in Hungary, worth between $80m and $160m for 100,000 lines of DMS 100 and DMS 200 digital exchange lines – but it is not clear how much of the business will filter back to the Canadian: the contract has actually been won by Austrian Telecommunications Co, a joint venture of Kapsch AG and Schrack AG, which builds the DMS exchanges under licence; the agreement also covers possible transfer of technology to enable DMS manufacture in Hungary.
