Northern Telecom Ltd is to supply a DMS digital telephone exchanges to support local and international telecommunication services in Azerbaijan through its partner Netas: the Azerbaijan Ministry of Telecommunications has signed a $21m supply agreement with Netas, which includes 40,000 lines and 50,000 trunks on DMS 100 and DMS 200 digital exchanges to form the backbone of the state’s first digital network; Netas will supply an additional 20,000 lines supported by its own rural telephone exchange, the DRX-4, under the supply agreement; a Northern Telecom 100/200 system was placed in service in the capital city, Baku two months ago to route international calls to and from the republic via the Northern Telecom DMS 300 International Gateway exchange in Ankara, Turkey; Netas is the leading Turkish supplier of fully digital telecommunications systems, established as a joint venture between the Turkish PTT and Northern Telecom in 1967.
