Northern Telecom Ltd formed two new operating groups, Nortel North America and Nortel World Trade, with effect from January 1: Nortel North America will be responsible for the company’s four product groups which include switching networks, multimedia communications systems, transmission and components, and wireless systems, and will control all product development, while Nortel World Trade will further integrate the company’s international marketing and business activities in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Caribbean and Latin America; the two operating groups will focus on growth opportunities in broadband multimedia, personal communications and advanced intelligent networks, and the company looks to the reorganisation will also help Northern Telecom expand its market share in key international markets.
