NORTEL LAUNCHES MICRO BTS S2000 SYSTEMS FAMILY

By CBR Staff Writer

Northern Telecom Ltd is preparing to launch its S2000 family of micro BTS base transceiver stations that will, say the company, offer GSM Groupe Speciale Mobile digital wireless network operators up to a 50% reduction in cell site footprint requirements while tripling subscriber capacity. Available for 900MHz, 1800MHz and 1900MHz networks, the S2000 BTS range is best-suited to the build out requirements of 1900MHz F-band PCS Personal Communications Service licensees in the US, where closely-located, high-capacity cells are essential to providing sufficient coverage in a limited slice of radio spectrum. The new high power S2000H is for highway and rural environments with the low power S2000L best deployed as a microcellular underlay or campus coverage.
