NORTEL CHINA WINS $20M SDH RADIO NETWORK DEAL

By CBR Staff Writer

Northern Telecom Ltd’s Nortel China unit won a $20m contract to provide a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy radio net to China’s National Postal & Telecommunications Appliances Corp. The network, to support more than 22,600 simultaneous telephone channels, would extend from Hubei’s Wuhan city to Lanzhou of Gansu province. Installation will begin in the first quarter of 1997 and the service is expected to begin in the fourth quarter. The new network is an extension of the first China Telecom SDH radio network in China between Fujian’s Fuzhou to Wuhan, delivered by the company in December 1995. The firm said the overall network will be over 1,440 miles.
