NORSK’S DOLPHIN “IN LINE FOR BIG THOMSON DEAL”

By CBR Staff Writer

Norsk Data A/S affiliate Dolphin Server Technology A/S is on the brink of a coup in the francophone world: word in Oslo is that a deal is ready to be signed by the Cetia SA subsidiary of Thomson-CSF SA under which the French company will take non-exclusive worldwide distribution rights for the one to four processor Triton-88 high performance servers built around the Motorola Inc 88000 RISC chip. Cetia already builds an 88000 workstation, the Cetia 88K, and like the Norwegian company is a member of 88open, whose acolytes are committed to portability of their Unix appli cations across 88000-based com puters. SGS-Thomson Microelec tronics NV has second-source rights to fabricate the 88000 – for military applications only.
