To be considered for an award, a customer must ship more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous chemicals with Norfolk Southern during a calendar year without causing a single release of product. This is the fifth year Norfolk Southern has given the awards to its safest chemical customers. The 2000 awards include 24 companies and seven chemical plants.

Safety is the highest priority at Norfolk Southern, said David R. Goode, NS chairman, president and CEO. Our goal is the safe transportation of every shipment on our rail system. Partnerships with safety-minded customers such as our chemical shippers help make that goal achievable.
