Norbain Electronics Plc, the Reading, Berkshire-based security systems designer and distributor has reported pre-tax profits for the six months to October 31 up 100% at UKP205,000 on sales that rose 52% to UKP8m. In November, the company sold its Technology Division to the Arlen Group for UKP1.35m (CI No 1,560), to focus on distributing security systems such as closed circuit television. The funds from this sale have reduced borrowings to UKP2m. Norbain is keen to establish itself on the continent, by first setting up a low-risk distributor network, and has employed a European manager who is working full time to establish suitable links abroad – once the distributor base has been set up, Norbain hopes to establish itself on the continent in its own right. The company will also consider more acquisitions in the UK. Chairman John Nicol says that its expanded Vista range of own-branded products – cameras, montiors and lenses, which are made in the Far East, and the acquisition of SEE Ltd in May, have boosted the company’s market penetration and its profitability.
