Unlikely bedfellows the giant Nomura Securities and Nintendo the family computer games machine manufacturer have formalised an agreement with Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp’s Hit Net service: Hit Net is a communications network to Open Systems Interconnection standards that can handle all types of communications including telephone, packet switching, personal computer communications and viewdata: until now in Japan, every company had its own standard for family computer communications, with the leaders being the securities companies who have joint development projects with the toy computer makers, regarding the games players as ideal low-cost terminals for people wanting to review their portfolios and trade shares from home; however, Nomura and Nintendo’s decision to put their Family Computer Trading system up on the NTT network means that other companies are likely to follow suit; Nintendo, working with Nippon Telephone’s assistance, will develop a new adaptor for the Famicon with built-in communications and a security mode.
