Information is transmitted from the phone to the Internet via packet switching. This technology will allow users to stay connected to the Internet or e-mail without having to make one continuous phone call, similar to the system used in fixed-line internet connections. There will, however, be no time spent making dial-up connections.

Data can be accessed on the phone using the WAP Internet browser or by connecting it to a PC via infrared transmissions. GPRS offers a new method of transmitting data which will enable the user to receive for example, continuous news updates. Along with other WAP advancements, the combination of the new technologies provides the possibility of remembered information (i.e. information which will not have to be laboriously re-entered a second time). Nokia claim that this technology will be easily accessible for people and the president of Nokia, K-P Wilska said it will bring a new level of wireless connectivity.
