Nokia Oy says that it made a net loss for the first four months of 1992 equivalent to $76m, which compares with a profit of $64m last time, but that included a gain of $73m on sale of most of the shares in Nokia Data Systems to ICL Plc; sales fell 3.4% to $1,135m; the company still looks for an operating profit for the year, but says that it will be in the red at the net level; consumer electronics was the villain of the piece, with turnover in the division off 14%, while cellular telephony equipment was the star performer with sales of telephones up 18%; Nokia will start making cellular phones in Texas early next year at a plant to be jointly owned with Tandy Corp.
