A new Nokia Multimedia group will form part of a four-part structure, alongside Nokia Mobile Phones and Nokia Networks, which will continue unaltered, and the recently announced Enterprise Solutions unit.
Nokia Multimedia will focus on digital content for the consumer market and will be headed by current Nokia Mobile Phones number-two, Anssi Vanjoki..
Nokia Enterprise Solutions will target businesses with end-to-end mobile business systems. A general manager for the unit will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo is giving up Nokia’s financial reins, moving from CFO to run Nokia’s largest business, Nokia Mobile Phones. He displaces current incumbent, Matti Alahuhta.
The move has prompted speculation that Kallasvuo is now in pole position to take over from Nokia CEO Jorma Ollila once his contract expires in 2006. Kallasvuo will have followed a near-identical path to Ollila through Nokia’s upper ranks, with both progressing from CFO to head of Nokia Mobile Phones.
Nokia’s reshuffle is also notable for promoting two non-Finns into board positions. American Rick Simonson will inherit the CFO’s post while Hallstein Moerk, a Norwegian, will head human resources. Speculation that the move towards internationalization may herald a future move for Nokia’s headquarters away from Finland appear wide of the mark.
