Nokia reclaims website using its brand name

Nokia has won a domain name dispute by reclaiming another website that used its brand name. The win continues Nokia's endeavor to protect its name by reclaiming any website address that contains it. Earlier this year, the company successfully reclaimed www.nokiaringtones.com.

This latest dispute focused on the www.nokia.me.uk domain. The address contains a new UK domain code and is aimed at personal users. Naqi Jawad purchased the domain name from Nominet. When approached by Nokia, Mr Jawad claimed that Nokia was his nickname and wanted the company to pay a premium to obtain it.

Checks by Nokia discovered that Mr Jawad had also registered domains that included brand names such as BMW and Sony. Nominet was then forced to conclude that Mr Jawad was making a catalog of abusive registrations.
