NOKIA-MOBIRA CLAIMS SALES OF CELLULAR TELEPHONES UP BY 59%

By CBR Staff Writer

Nokia-Mobira, the mobile phone division of Nokia Oy claims that sales of its cellular phones increased by 59% in the first sixmonths of the year compared with the equivalent period of the previous year: growth was highest in the North American market where there are currently 1.5m mobile phone subscribers in total with a further 65,000 coming on-line every month; the Finnish company claims a 14% slice of that market and half the market in both France and Denmark; Nokia is gearing to participate in the pan-European digital cellular network but has not received any orders yet, although it says it is in discussions with a number of operators and is confident of orders soon.
