All three will boost the recently formed Linux Foundation’s focus on promoting Linux as a mobile and embedded operating platform. As well as Nokia’s handset dominance it is also home to the Linux-based Maemo open source mobile browser.
Meanwhile, VirtualLogix said it will be contributing its real-time virtualization expertise to the Linux Foundation’s virtualization to help increase the adoption of Linux on embedded devices, and Marvell is hoping to pick up on interest in Linux from its communications chips.
The Linux Foundation was formed by the January merger of Open Source Development Labs and the Free Standards Group and is responsible for the Linux Standards Base, as well as the Data Center Linux, Carrier Grade Linux, and Desktop Linux workgroups, and the Mobile Linux Initiative.
