The company is struggling to maintain a cost-effective platform to provide domestic and business customers with services in the current downturn of market conditions. The company said it will sharpen its strategy and business focus in its Broadband Systems division.
Some analysts believe that with this announcement Nokia is preparing itself for any other adverse conditions which may follow in the following months.
These cuts are also in accordance with the announcement that it wishes to streamline its R&DE facilities. The company currently operates nine research facilities and will now concentrate on fewer, but strong sites, which have the capacity to assume more comprehensive independent program assignments.
