After none of the other shareholders decided to bid for part of Motorola’s holding, Nokia bought a stake equivalent to 13.2% of the total for $65.7 million (GBP39.6 million), while Psion bought a 5.8% holding for $28.9 million (GBP17.4 million).

Nokia is now the largest Symbian shareholder with 32.2% while Psion holds 31.1%. The other shareholders are Ericsson [ERICY] (17.5%), Panasonic (7.9%), Samsung [00830.KS] (5%), Siemens [SI] (4.8%), and Sony Ericsson [SNE] (1.5%).

Motorola’s decision last month to sell its stake came as a surprise since shipments of Symbian devices have just begun to take off, which could put the company in a position to hold an IPO in 2004.
