NO-ONE AT IBM KNOWS ABOUT THE 3380 AFF AND B4F DISK DRIVES

By CBR Staff Writer

Pressure of space – and more importantly, time – precluded more than a teaser yesterday on those 3380 AFF and B4F disk drives that were spotted on IBM’s Dail IBM information service for its customers, but all the signs are that they shouldn’t have been there: no-one in IBM’s UK press office could shed any light on them, and although there were F models of the 3350 which had a couple of fixed head tracks for ultra-fast access – if users could work out how to employ them effectively – none of the IBM reference books show any F-designated 3380s, which points to them being the drives that are widely expected out in March or April.
