An article by Spanish newspaper ABC suggests that Xfera’s shareholders would meet at a point this week to consider the offer. One of Xfera’s major shareholders is Sonera; it has stated that it is looking to extract itself from any non-Nordic 3G licenses. Thus increasing speculation that the move is on the cards
France Telecom, does not hold a Spanish 3G license, but does own a Spanish subsidiary, Uni2 which could enable it to take over the license without it being handed back to the Spanish government, nor could the government increase the cost of the license without applying the increase to all Spanish licensees.
