A disconcerting glimpse of the future is reported by the Sunday Telegraph’s Gordon Brook-Shepherd from a recent trip to Washington: seems he arrived to check in at one of the capital’s newest hotels and found the sumptuous lobby packed with what looked like displaced persons – all, like himself, waiting to check in, and stymied by the fact dhat the computer was down so that the desk clerk didn’t know which of the rooms were occupied…
