Novell Inc is celebrating the news that the US District Court for the Northern District of California granted it partial summary judgement that permanently prohibits claims of direct patent infringement against Novell by Roger Billings and his company, International Academy of Science Inc: Billings claims a patent on client-server computing, and the federal court ruled that his company unconditionally waived its claim of direct patent infringement by Novell; the court is continuing to consider claims of indirect patent infringement by Novell; Billings initially brought suit as the American Academy of Science, an unaccredited and alleged non-profit school, and vehicle for the suit; Billings has since changed the corporate name to International Academy of Science.
