The worker directors – the employee works council – at Nixdorf Computer AG in Paderborn have prevailed on the company to reduce the number of jobs to be cut in West Germany to 1,600 between now and the middle of the year, down from the previously announced 2,400. The company says the agreement will enable it to move quickly to cut jobs outside Germany, and it seems likely that the agreement is effectively the West German employees exporting the company’s redundancies. Nixdorf was to have cut about 2,400 jobs in its international operations: it seems likely that more will now go.
