Nixdorf Computer AG, Paderborn, and Cincom Systems Inc, Cincinnati came together in Munich yesterday to announce a major and far-reaching technological alliance on Unix software with the aim of taking more than half the Unix market in the 1990s. The two revealed that they had been working together for more than a year, and the new software products will bring together Nixdorf’s portable distributed data base technology and Cincom’s relational database, high-level application development languages and computer-integrated manufacturing expertise. The effort will combine Cincom’s commitment to the IBM and DEC markets with Nixdorf’s offerings for Unix operating systems, which will yield products across the full range of major operating system environments. Nixdorf sees the alliance as a major aid in its efforts to establish itself on the US market. First products are planned for the first half of 1988.
