Nissho-Iwai Co, the sixth largest Japanese trading company, has started marketing CD-Master, a Compact Disk-Read Only Memory system made by small Californian Meridian Data Inc, through through its Nissho Electronics Corp subsidiary: the system was launched in the US at the end of last year and has chalked up 150 sales – but CD-ROMs have not so far sold well in Japan partly because of the lack of standards and also because of high prices.
