Nissho Iwai has acquired the Japanese distribution rights to General Electric’s high-speed GE-SCAN Total Document Retrieval System database retrieval system, which runs on DEC’s VAX series: initially the English version will be offered, but it will be converted into Japanese; the product includes a pro-prietaray GE processor that enables a 90m database to be searched, scanning a 200-page document in a second; it is $53,000 in Japan.
