Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp has signed a memorandum with Thai Telephone & Telecommunication Co Ltd participate in the installation of 1m telephone circuits in Thailand, beating competitors from France, Australia, New Zealand and the US. According to Reuter, NTT will sign a contract covering the circuits’ design, construction and management with Thai Telephone in November, the first time NTT has participated in such a large project abroad. The Japanese phone company owns 20% of Thai Telephone, and is considering sending some 100 staff including 40 or 50 key officers and will appoint the chief operating officer. It will transfer all assets involved to the Telephone Organisation of Thailand after completing the installation in five years, but will retain the right to operate the facility over 25 years.
