NIPPON KOKAN KK TO DELAY CONSTRUCTION OF PLANT IN OREGON

By CBR Staff Writer

Nippon Kokan KK of Japan will delay construction of a polycrystalline silicon plant at Millersburg, Oregon indefinitely because of sluggish demand in the semiconductor industry, according to Oregon officials: the $60m, which was expected to employ about 100, was to have started production late this year; work on the site is about 80% complete, but the company says it will delay plant construction until the demand for silicon wafers improves.
