While IBM gets into bed with L M Ericsson on network systems and services (CI No 760), the joint venture between its IBM Japan unit and Nippon Telegraph & Telephone – called Nippon Information and Communications – is off and running: on September 1 it introduced a new Multi-Media Digital Network service: running over high-speed digital NTT lines, the service will resell capacity, providing value-added network services and consultancy on network building; the new service has 10 access points around the country, linked by 6Mbit-per-second digital lines and will use NTT’s multi-media multiplexers for integrating voice, facsimile, and video conferencing.
