NINTENDO TO REPORT BETTER-THAN-EXPECTED FIRST HALF

By CBR Staff Writer

Games giant Nintendo Co is likely to report about 48 billion yen ($396m) in operating profit for the six months ending Sept. 30, about 3.4 times more than during last year’s first half, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The forecast is 5 billion yen more than initially projected in April. Sales for the period will increase by 54% year on year to 200 billion yen ($1.65bn), 20 billion yen more than the initial estimate. Better-than- expected sales of the Game Boy portable machine contributed to the good performance. The company also says shipments of the Nintendo 64 machine will likely meet the initial target of 5.5 million machines, strong export sales will likely offsetting sluggish domestic demand.
