Nintendo Sued by Geller Over Pokemon Character Theft

By CBR Staff Writer

Nintendo Co Ltd is being sued for $100m by much-derided psychic Uri Geller over an alleged unauthorized use of his image in its popular Pokemon children’s computer games. According to London’s The Guardian newspaper, the psychic-magician game character Alakazam is called Good Un-Geller and Evil Un-Geller in its Japanese versions. The Japanese characters are also depicted carrying bent spoons, the products of one of the real Geller’s best-known party-tricks. Geller told the newspaper: I would not have given permission for an aggressive and, in one case, evil character to be based on me. Pokemon is the latest collectable toy sensation to sweep the globe, and the market is estimated to be worth $100bn.
